About the project

Fairytales Unlimited is a private library of fairy tales made as a birthday present for a friend. The stories are long, funny adventures set in the worlds of World of Warcraft and Dota 2, each split into chapters with illustrations of its own. Every chapter is narrated over music, with real sound effects in place of words like “boom” and “bang”, and the sentence being read lights up while the text scrolls along with the voice. Each reader has a profile with a level and mana: the first chapter of a story is free, the next ones open in order for mana, and drinks on the profile refill it. Requests for new stories go straight to the author, and the first one has already become a new tale.

Project story

  1. 01The request

A birthday present: a private library of fairy tales written for a friend, to read and listen to the way you would on a streaming service.

  2. 02The obstacle

The stories are long, so the library had to keep a reader coming back chapter after chapter while staying closed to everyone but invited guests.

  3. 03What was built

Each chapter is narrated over music with sound effects, and the sentence being read lights up while the text follows the voice. A game layer turns reading into progress: levels for time spent listening, mana to open the next chapter and drinks that refill it. Readers sign in with personal invitations, pick up from the same sentence on any device and send requests for new stories straight to the author.

  4. 04The result

The stories play like a premium audiobook app, and new tales are written on readers’ requests: the first one is already in the library.

A good fit for: Authors, publishers and course creators who want readers or students to come back for the next chapter.
